Grand Canary hosts, for the second consecutive year, a seminar aimed at companies operating in the food chain


Grupo Capisa and the Instituto Internacional San Telmo, with the collaboration of Asinca, arranged the seminar entitled 'Value and competitive advantage in the food business: working on branding, growth, raw materials and operations', which was held on October 18, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The professors of the Instituto Internacional San Telmo addressed the present and the near future of the agri-food industry, in a high-level training initiative aimed at executives and professionals from this sector located in the Canary Islands.

In essence, this seminar, in which, according to its director, Gema Jiménez,  more than fifty companies were in attendance, had as its aim the analysis of the activity of the agri-food industry after the economic downturn, as well as companies' preparation strategies for growth in this new scenario. Furthermore, two practical case studies were evaluated on essential aspects at the present time: new avenues of national and international growth, which will be seen with the Parmareggio Case, at the forefront of the Parmesan cheese market and the challenge of growing creating value between large-scale distribution and the primary sector, through the Acesur Case.


Real-life case studies

Thus, the Seminar was aimed at entrepreneurs and managers of agriculture, livestock and fisheries, food processing industry, distribution (both wholesale and retail), catering and food services. Its content is of great interest, also for auxiliary sectors related to the food chain, such as logistics, biotechnology, consultants, agricultural and industrial supplies and financial institutions and investors of this agro-industrial environment.

The guest professors of the San Telmo Institute were Miguel Ángel Llano Irusta, in charge of expounding the Parmareggio case and Enrique Garrido, who dealt with the Acesur case. In addition, both gave a conference-colloquium. Professor Llano tackled the balance between competitive advantages and disadvantages, while Mr. Garrido dealt with issues related to industry 4.0.
